Where did the Blue Bunny® name originate?
In 1935, Fred and Harry Wells could not use the Wells name to sell ice cream since they had sold the rights to use the name to another company in 1928.
So, they held a "Name that Ice Cream" contest in The Sioux City Journal. A Sioux City man, George Vanden Brink, won a $25 prize for submitting “Blue Bunny."
He not only submitted the name but also the Blue Bunny character; a form of which is still used today on packaging and in the Blue Bunny logo.
What is the feature flavor program and when are the flavors released?
Blue Bunny Premium Critic's Choice and Limited Edition flavors are made in limited quantities and debut periodically throughout the year wherever Blue Bunny ice cream is sold.
When you see them snatch them up! It’s likely they won’t last long.
Where can I find Blue Bunny ice cream and novelties?
You can find Blue Bunny products in supermarkets, foodservice establishments (restaurants, educational institutions, hospitals, etc.), convenience stores, vending outlets (neighborhood Ice cream trucks and events) and military commissaries.
What types of products does Blue Bunny make?
The Blue Bunny label carries a variety of frozen dairy products including ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet, frozen novelties and frozen specialty desserts.
When was Wells founded?
Wells was founded when Fred H. Wells made a $250 investment in 1913. That was the purchase price paid to Ray Bowers (a Le Mars dairy farmer) for a horse, a delivery wagon, a few cans and jars, and the good will of the business. The original contract granted Fred H. Wells the milk distribution route and guaranteed him a source of raw milk from Mr. Bowers' herd of 10 to 15 milk cows.
Why is Le Mars the Ice Cream Capital of the World®?
Le Mars was officially designated the Ice Cream Capital of the World by the Iowa State Legislature in 1994. More ice cream is produced in Le Mars by a single company — Wells — than in any other city in the world.
Do you provide tours of your facilities?
For safety and security reasons, we do not provide facility tours, however Blue Bunny fans and ice cream enthusiasts can visit the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor
